History

The UP Agribusiness Society was organized in 1972. It was at first an informal group set by the members who developed a bond forged by a common background and the burden of schoolwork. At that time, the President was a Diliman registered agribusiness major and the Vice President was a Los Baños resident. During those times, agribusiness majors would obtain their agriculture sub-jects here in Los Baños and their management subjects in UP Diliman. The founding fathers of the society were: Mike Ascalon, Reynardo Bantog, Ramon Bernardo, Myrna Corpuz, Enrico Esteban, Celso Hizon, Mario Cesar Mamon, Alberto Manalo, Jimmy Williams - who are now well-established in their chosen careers.

The Society was recognized when it started to participate in various organizational activities from 1973 to 1977. In 1978, the entire Agribusiness curriculum was transferred to UP Los Baños; thus, terminating the chapter in Diliman. A distinct shift in the Society’s activities occurred from 1977 to 1982. Within this period, the society participated in various academic competitions and sponsored a number of lectures and symposia.
In 1985, the first Agribusiness Week was sponsored by the society and the UPLB Agribusiness Program. Since then the Agribusiness Week has become an annual affair.

In 1977, the society marked history by celebrating the first Agribusiness Month, which was consequently celebrated with the UP Agribusiness Society’s Silver Anniversary
